I think the guy was name Jim and lady I think was Marsha not for sure of her name. They know who they are, some great people. He call another guy brought was cables and plyers. It was the most fun I had ever had looking at a car show. I drove my 79' Camaro down from Floyd co. What I liked the most about Somernites Cruise is that i got to see alot of cars close up that i normaly wouldn't get to see. The main thing that sets Somernites Cruise off from all the local shows I'v took my Camaro to is that it's not a contest to win, just go and show what you've got! Saturday a friend and I decided to try it in the roadster, threat of rain or not (all the other 'roadster pilots' from our group wimped out). We were totally blown away. What a great event! We'll be back and bring the wives. Saw the comments about the 'rice rockets'. I look at them as the 'hot rods' of today's generation. A "chain-saw sound" coming out of a car doesn't quicken the heartbeat for me like a thumping, bent 8, but....then the generation before me didn't/doesn't like trashing a classic by making a rod out of it. ________________________________________ RICK HILL KNOXVILLE, TN Comments submitted: 07/23/06 WOW !! SO I DO NOT BELIEVE THERE IS ANY TRUTH TO THE COMMENT MADE PREVIOUSLY REGARDING THIS ISSUE. RESPECTIVELY, DAVID FLOYD ________________________________________ Steve Lexington, KY Comments submitted: 06/07/06 Look it's your event. If you don't want imports than say so. Looking at pics from previous years I've seen late model cars. Domestic late model cars. I saw a Saturn, which is not a muscle car or hot rod. So you just don't want imports. Your call. Just make it CLEAR in the rules. Stop calling them "late models" and call em imports. Your just confusing people allowing them to drive for hours and then get turned away. If it walks like a duck, call it a duck. Don't pussyfoot around and try to be politically correct. You waste people's time and gas. Use a little common sense and we won't clog up your forum with complaints. By the way, I do drive domestic, but you'll never see it at your event. ________________________________________ Del Danville, KY Comments submitted: 06/07/06 I left a comment below but I have something else to say. The younger generation is wanting to get involved more and more in the car/truck scene but it seems that we are not wanted unless we build a hotrod, streetrod, classic, etc. I would like to be able to bring my future kids to Somernites but if the younger generation keeps getting turned away then this great cruise in will die. I urge everyone to become more open minded to the new vehicles and the ways they are customized. ________________________________________ SomernitesCruise Team Somerset, KY Comments submitted: 06/06/06 ATTENTION ALL USERS OF THE COMMENTS PAGE: Please, DO NOT call people out by name in your posts. I think these late model import cars should as the saying goes "Birds of a feather should flock together" and get their own separate week-end event and quit crashing the original SOMERNITES CRUISE because the majority of participants and sponsors don't care for these rides around ths event. It's a nostalgia thing and frankly not much nostalgia at the moment for late model Japanese iron. ________________________________________ Clay Salvisa, KY Comments submitted: 06/05/06 I guess when all the classics get wrecked, or sold/run down, or just disappear, the entire car scene is supposed to disappear also? Cause heaven forbid a change happen. Face it, us "newcomers" to the car scene are not here to take over, we look up and respect everyone with classics, thats what I was raised on. All we are trying to do is fit in and show what WE do. Sure, your Vettes and Mustangs have huge V8s with hundreds of horsepower, but whats the feeling in your heart when your pedal is mashed and your staring down the tailpipe of a nice looking Honda, Nissan, or Toyota? ________________________________________ Steve Lexington, KY Comments submitted: 06/05/06 I think the planning for the Somernites Cruise is great, but need to be more opened minded. I went to the Cruise a few times last year and on the last trip I made we brought like 10-15 cars and only 4 of us made it in, the rest were turned away at the gate. I love to look at the classic cars, but I'm into the modern cars scene. I have enough modifications to get into the show, but have no plans of going back until some of the rules change.... Make all cars domestic and imoport, new and old have a 3 modification rule, or do away with the rule all together. ________________________________________ Justin Lexington, KY Comments submitted: 06/05/06 Ive been to the show once and actually had a good time despite not being allowed to show my show car by getting turned away along with 9 of my fellow show team members. It was fun, but its not import car friendly. Any plans to allow imports into the show or are we gonna be stuck looking at a few nice cars admist a sea of stock camaros and mustangs? Other than that, great job on the organization of something that large. Having hosted a car show myself, i cant imagine how much hard work it would take to put that on. Now just let the imports in and ill bring some cars that will get as much attn as anything there. ________________________________________ Paula somerset, KY Comments submitted: 06/01/06 hi I just wanted to say thanks ,my family just moved here from california and we went to your somernites cruise and really enjoyed our selfs the performers that song was very good everything was awsome ,somerset is a very nice place thanks for the fun <<< ________________________________________ MASON, DUNCAN, MOREDOCK TEXARKANA, TX Comments submitted: 05/31/06 Somernites Cruise - Absolutely the greatest! I would also like to thank the cruisers who have been friendly to me. I just wanted to bring up the fact that I have also felt disrespected and discriminated by some of the other cruisers when I attended the cruise in the past. I have a 1994 Japanesse import with several modifications, which is classified as a "highly modified late model" according to Somernites rules. I am a fan of all custom cars and trucks, from classic cars, to hot rods, to lowriders. I know some people are set in their ways and don't want to see any cars like mine or newer cars and trucks in general at the show, but I think maybe if you had all the late model vehicles park in one designated area it might work out better for everyone. Certain models of other cars could also be parked together, like Corvettes, Mustangs, or all muscle cars in one area. Just an idea that you may have heard or already tried before. It was put out of commission early last year due to an accident (not my fault). I love the show and will be back every chance I get. The only complaint I have is the disrespect I see for the newer vehicles thats not a stock mustang or corvette. I never knew this was JUST for domestic made cars/trucks. The show is or should be about ALL vehicles no matter what make or model. The younger generation wants to show off what they have done as well and if they keep gettin turned away and put down then the Show scene will go down because of it. I love the classics, street rods, hotrods, etc, but I also love seeing the new stuff that is tastefully done. One more thing and I'm done. I made it to Somernites once last year. Parked next to a very nice Chevelle, guess he didnt like me parking next to him. He spit tobacco juice down the side of my truck and moved to a d ________________________________________ jason hall nancy, KY Comments submitted: 04/29/06 I just want to say I love the cruise. That is what we thought about the cruise and the personnel running the program. This was our first time ever visiting Somerset and especially attending the cruise. We were a little disappointed about the block party being canceled on Friday night, but Saturday event made up for and then some. We had a terrific time. The hotel staff told us where to go to get in line for the Saturday cruise. While we were sitting in line to get in, we met some really nice people. The gentlemen handing out the brochures on the cruise were very polite. The salsa sampling - delicious - I can't wait to buy it - hope to get our Walmart to carry it as well. The quality of vehicles, the people, the town, the food and the hotel all made our trip to Kentucky memorable - well worth the long trip. We will be back, but we will not be coming alone. ________________________________________ Daniel Salyersville, KY Comments submitted: 04/26/06 I attended Somernites Cruise for the first time on april 22. I really enjoyed what the crusie had to offer. The only thing I didnt understand is why there was so much traffic out on 27 when we were in the cruising process. We will be there next month with our 1970 GTO Judge so be looking for us. I would love to have a t-shirt too. Thanks again for the hospitality and can't wait until the May show. This is our third summer to come to the cruise-in and we always enjoyed cruising town. Sure missed it this month. I'm sure you had to change it because someone who doesn't enjoy the cruise-in had some silly complaint. Do the residents realize the revenue this one weekend brings into your town? But of course, I'm sure they enjoy the money it brings to town, just not the people. Other than the few disgruntled residence, we think Somerset is a great place. As long as you have the cruise-ins, we will keep coming. You guys do a GREAT job!!! If we don't start giving some recognition to the up and coming generations, car shows and cruises are going to DIE. People, as well as automobiles are aging every day. Every day there are a couple or so people who just don't feel like getting up that morning and working on their classic Chevy. Every day there are a few more cars that rust down on the sides of rural roads. The people who now drive these "classic" cars once upon a time drove modern cars and fixed them up as well. If they were discouraged as much as the current generation is from showing and cruising, then they might not would be showing and cruising even as we speak. Please don't kill something that has lasted for generations. Parents once upon a time ENCOURAGED their kids to get out and enjoy automobiles with them...what has happened to change that? I feel that a change of location will eventually be necessary to allow people to easilly access to the show. I am positive that this will eventually happen or will happen very soon. Also, I fell that vehicles at least 20 years old should only be allowed in the event. After all, it is a basically a huge classic car show. We plan to be back for the August cruise, can't wait and hope the turnout is as big or bigger. You do a great job in getting the cars in and parked. Keep up the good work! ________________________________________ Teri Stephens Oak Ridge, TN Comments submitted: 07/28/2003 Thanks for a fun 5K. The organization, the volunteers, and the course were terrific. I particularly enjoyed running through the water mist provided by the Fire Dept.! Some of your runners gave me an entry form for this event while they were in Knoxville for a run. This worked out great for us, as my husband has a car that he was happy to bring and show. The run gave me something to do while he did his car thing. At tonight's meeting of our local Mustang club, my husband will be encouraging all members to partake of your cruise, as he thought very highly of the event. The Somerset runners I have previously met in Tennessee are an exceptional bunch, but I also have to say that everyone we have met while in Somerset was very friendly and courteous and fun. You need to be very proud of your 5K run and your cruise and your community. We'll be back. PLEASE continue the 5K runs! ________________________________________ Sasha Somerset, KY Comments submitted: 07/26/2003 I LOVE the 5k race and walk, I hope you all do it ever year. I love Somernite's Cruise. My favorite part being the Cruise up 27 at the end of the show. I hope that this activity can stay active for a long while and can grow larger. ________________________________________ LARRY PATTERSON HARRODSBURG, KY Comments submitted: 07/11/2003 Hey, just wanted to tell you that me and all my friends that came down in june for the cruise-in had a great time. We alway's have a great time when we climb in our old cars and hot rods and cruise down to somernite's cruise-in. This june fun run before the cruise-in at the dragstrip was {great!!!!!!!} Hope you plan another one later this year. I had my 82 olds cutlass down there and got down to the time on my time slips as low as 8.05 in the 1/8 after i figured out not to fire on it out of the hole wide open. Needed some slick's on it. Maybe next time i will bring some if you have another one and all my friends want to go back if you plan on going back this year. Well, we'll be watching for info of another one and thanks for a great time. {cut-lus} KEEP CRUISN!!!!! L.P. ________________________________________ Ernie Acton Eubank , KY Comments submitted: 07/10/2003 I think having the cars mixed is the best part of the cruise. If you had the cars seperated then people would miss out on seeing all the different makes of cars that are out there. I say you have a great show and keep doing what your doing. ________________________________________ Paul and Jan Lovell Cincinnati, OH Comments submitted: 07/08/2003 June 2003, What a show !!! Went to Bowling Green for 50th Corvette Anniversary Caravan, then cut across to your show, it was icing on the cake. What a great weekend. Thanks ! ________________________________________ Bobby and Sharon Gabbard London, KY Comments submitted: 07/07/2003 Wow !! June was a dozie. I walked, and walked and walked. What a show. As always, you guys did a great job pulling it off. The last count I had was 1,045 participants. If you want to relax and get plenty exercise at the same time (LOL), don't miss the July event. We usually come over with our son, Robby who has a black 98' Mustang with flames he designed & I painted. Car has 28,000 actual. Look us up at the show & shine. C- ya'. ________________________________________ Ginger Baker Eubank, KY Comments submitted: 07/05/2003 I think it would be nice if the vehicles were put into diferent catagories, the new American automobiles 1990 and up be parked in one area, the Imports be placed in another area, and the older cars under 1990 be placed together. Thanks Ginger ________________________________________ rich phelps st. charles, MO Comments submitted: 07/04/2003 came to see everything enjoyed it alot have a 1930 ford streetrod myself and would like to bring it down one of these days the only complaint I had was that the cruise itself was rather disappointing Ireally thought more cars would participate in that part but all in all you should be commended on your well organized show-----great show rich phelps ________________________________________ clyne lanham perryville, KY Comments submitted: 07/01/2003 really enjoyed the morning cruz to the drag strip, wish there were more fun runs like that always enjoy your cruz-ins and i will have the 57 nomad there every time; agian best cruz in the state . ________________________________________ Brad Owens London, KY Comments submitted: 07/01/2003 I have attended every show since August of last year with my papaw's 1936 Ford Coupe street rod. It's black with flames (very sharp). It is a very great show and well organized. I was very surprised with the last show, having over 1000 cars. I will be back for all the other shows to come. Keep up the good work guys. ________________________________________ Diecast Dad Canada, KY Comments submitted: 07/01/2003 June 2003 was my first visit to the cruise, it was the most awesome well organized event I have visited. With over 1000 cars and thousands of spectators truly made an enjoyable evening. Looking forward to the next event. Congratulations Guys. ________________________________________ Cameron Humfleet London, KY Comments submitted: 06/30/2003 i think that this kind of event is great for families to get together and older people to look back on the memories that they had in those days. i love it because my family puts our 1973 Ford Mustang (Mach 1) and see spectators stop and look. i just can't believe that people from California come to this event. ________________________________________ Kelly Russell glasgow, KY Comments submitted: 06/23/2003 I have been to several of the cruises and think the coolest part is when everyone lines up and cruises out. It is an amazing sight to see all the old cars and trucks filling the streets.Keep up the good work. ________________________________________ Angela Godby Lexington, KY Comments submitted: 06/12/2003 I really enjoy the cruise!!!! Keep up the good work!! ________________________________________ Nicholas Dicken Somerset, KY Comments submitted: 06/04/2003 I'm a 16 year old from Somerset. I really enjoy coming to the show. i look forward to showing my 1981 Mustang Notchback soon. (still looking for many parts). i think there should be a big swap meet for parts. and i also think that the cars should be seperated, for example: mustangs with mustangs, camaros with camaros, etc... thanks.! ________________________________________ Jake Banning Monroe , IN Comments submitted: 06/03/2003 I was just wondering if there was a problem with the pictures.
